Linda’s friends didn’t believe her when she told them her horse, Jazz, was pregnant. After all, Jazz wasn’t really showing in the pregnancy. But this past June, Jazz stood in her stall on wobbly legs, defying standard horse sense.
Linda and her husband Jim had an idea Jazz’s baby Hope would be born smaller than average, since her mom and dad are both mini horses. However, they never expected her to be this small! Born at 13 pounds, Itty Bitty Hope’s birth weight and height tied the world record for the smallest horse ever born!
The baby is healthy, happy, and pampered by her two-legged family. Plus, Linda already has a very important job in mind for Hope. She’ll be trained to become a beloved therapy horse for Mini Hooves of Love, Linda and Jim’s non-profit organization dedicated to providing therapeutic animal-assisted visits with patients, nursing home residents, shelters, and hospice patients. Mini horses like Hope make for friendly and excellent family pets, companions, and therapy animals.
Itty Bitty will grow a bit bigger in the next few years, but she’ll always be smaller than the average mini horse. In the meantime, she stands tall as one of the most adorable animals I’ve ever seen.
