This Amazing Rescue Dog Family Proves Adoption Is The Best Option

It's an old chestnut that gets thrown about recklessly sometimes, but in this case, it's true: love finds a way. It's seldom the easiest way—more often, it's the most hair-pullingly, screaming-out-loudly way—but love will win out in the end.

For Candice Miller, love saw through a troubled reputation, a damaged past, and an uncertain future. It was a gamble, but one she knew in an instant she had to take. To say it has paid off would be understatement; the proof is in the pictures.

Meet Kilo, the Pit Bull/Instagram star

Kilo's a happy pup now, but things were rough before Candice Miller came into his life.

Kilo arrived at the shelter Miller volunteered at fearful, having been beaten, starved, and neglected.

Miller worked with him for 10 hours a week to get him to come around.

Miller was going through a rough time herself after quitting a stressful job and losing one of her older dogs.

But even with Miller's help, nobody wanted to adopt Kilo, perhaps scared off by negative press about Pit Bulls.

Finally, when nobody had adopted him and the shelter would have to euthanize him, Candice rushed to his rescue.

Kilo joined Roofus, who Candice's son had brought home.

Before long, Roofus and Kilo were best buds and they were one big, happy family.

The Miller family has expanded, with six dogs in all, four of which are Pits.

The dogs have helped each other out along the way with companionship and comfort.

Or perhaps just putting up with each other.

Most recently, they were joined by Penny.

Penny was the only survivor from her litter of five; her mother killed three of her siblings, and the fourth had to be euthanized.

Candice nursed Penny to health with hourly feedings—and of course the other dogs helped in their own ways, often providing warmth and guarding the new addition.

Now it seems like Penny found the pack she was meant to run with.

It's hard to say whether the Millers' pack will keep increasing. They foster dogs from time to time, and they certainly have lots of love to give.

And really, they're obviously doing something right.

It just goes to show you what good can come from the brink of tragedy.
